100 on 100 - Heart of Vermont Relay

Well we did it. Joe and I completed our respective pieces of the 100 mile running relay through the center of the state. Weather was nice and cool - unseasonable for August. It was actually a little frigid in the early AM at 50 degrees and drizzly. By 8AM it had warmed up to a brisk 65 degrees and pretty much stayed there for the rest of the day.

I was runner #3 - so I had 7.0 mi, 4.7 mi, and 4.5 mi sections. The first leg was a breeze, slightly downhill w/ nice cool temps. The sun was just starting to come out and it was still kind of rainy, so I was following a rainbow for most of the way. Leg 2 was boring and flat, but green and pretty too. The 3rd one was the bitch - down the side of a mountain. I lost 1200 ft of elevation in just under 3 mi if that's any indication - it was quite the jarring run.

Joe was runner #6, so he did 5.8 mi, 5.3 mi, and 4.8 mi. His first run was extremely difficult and had some major hill climbs. His last run was from 8:45-9:30PM and in the dark. Here's a picture of part of our team. We had a lot of fun with our cowboy theme. Giddyup!

We had a lot of fun, but it was difficult to go down stairs yesterday. I think we're going to skip out on our weekly trail run tonight so our legs can heal.

Joe put photos up on our website for your viewing pleasure.
